Since 1978, Green Calgary has been a leading urban environmental charity; empowering Calgarians to green the way they live, work, and play. Sustainability is an intrinsic part of the organization's programs, services, projects and initiatives.

Green Calgary operates a number of programs including:

  • EcoStore (selling environmental products that meet their green procurement criteria);
  • Green Homes & Communities (helping Calgarians reduce and divert their household waste, conserve water, and reduce energy consumption);
  • Green Workplace (helping Calgary’s corporate sector implement recycling and waste reduction programs, adopt green procurement policies and find green services);
  • Green Kids and Generation Green (providing environmental education to children and youth from Kindergarten to Grade 12).

One of Green Calgary's most notable services is Event Greening, which the organization helped pioneer in the city almost a decade ago. By offering these fee based services to events such as the Calgary Folk Music Festival, Stampede breakfasts, and the annual Shaw Charity Classic Golf Tournament, they not only reduce the environmental footprint of many iconic local events; monies raised help subsidize environmental programs in local schools and communities. Green Calgary has helped event organizers achieve 96% waste diversion, and offset as much as six tonnes of carbon dioxide in a single year.
