COVID-19 UPDATE: They continue to face the uncertainties of the pandemic and its unique impacts on everything from finance to friendship. They were grateful to connect the community, amplify stories that matter, and support local 2SLGBTQ+ artists, entertainers, performers, producers, and small businesses during the first year of the pandemic. They hosted an entire online festival the second year of the pandemic, where they had blended programming. They celebrated in 3D at the B!G ART Drive-In and at #OurPride initiatives, while more friends tuned in to the B!G ART live streams from home. They also learned and connected at virtual events like Real Life Rainbow Royalty with Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil (India), Intersections of Faith and Queer Identity with the US Consulate in Calgary, the #ProudPartners Panel Series supported by Rogers & Fido, and their weekly Pride Cast episodes filmed in the showrooms at IKEA Calgary.
Calgary Pride is a volunteer-led, non-profit organization with a mandate to advance visibility and inclusion for Calgary’s gender and sexually diverse communities. Their annual Calgary Pride Parade and Festival is a celebration of the communities supported by their year-round programming, like the Queerly Festive Dinner & Show, and the popular family storytime program Reading with Royalty in partnership with the Calgary Public Library.
Calgary Pride has a history of over 30 years of leading the annual Pride Parade in the heart of downtown. In year 2021, Calgary Pride hosted its first ever blended virtual and in-person festival: B!G PRIDE. From couches to cars, with the support of their volunteers, community partners and generous sponsors, they held a celebration where everyone under the rainbow could participate.
