Making the Most of Third-party Marks & Certifications
We all know the value of third-party validations—they enhance your brand’s credibility, connect you to like-minded individuals, and differentiate your product or service in the marketplace. The topic for discussion: are we showcasing these stamps of sustainability to the best of our ability?
It’s time to get together and talk best practice when it comes to leveraging these marks across different platforms. How are our peers talking about them? What are our successes and challenges?
Join us for a workshop on four third-party marks: Bullfrog Power, REAP, Fairtrade, and B Corp. We’ll spend the first hour hearing from these four organizations, who will share tips and tricks for making the most out of their seals. Then, in groups, we’ll dive into a few examples, sharing our experiences along the way. We’ll finish off by collectively reflecting over a cold one.
This event is curated for any organization with one, a couple, or all of these marks. We ask that all attendees come prepared with one example of how they’re showcasing one of the four marks mentioned.
Anthony Santilli, Bullfrog Power
As Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Anthony Santilli is responsible for growing Bullfrog's commercial business and leading the strategic sales marketing team. Anthony brings deep expertise in sustainability, branding, and management consulting to his role, allowing him to help Bullfrog's commercial customers integrate their sustainability goals into their overall business strategy. He also advises clients on best practices in communicating sustainability initiatives to internal and external stakeholders including employees, supply chain partners, and customers.
James Boettcher, Fiasco Gelato
James is the custodian of Culture and Chief Idea Officer of one of the fastest-growing private companies in Canada, Fiasco Gelato. Fiasco has operated like a B Corp from its inception, long before it was ever certified as one, and the certification is a way of sharing their practices with the community and encouraging other businesses to adopt similar standards. With a commitment to changing the way business is done, James puts people and purpose above all else and Fiasco is part of the fabric of the community through their impact.
Erin Bird, Fair Trade Calgary
Erin Bird is an Engineer by day at The City of Calgary but her second "job" and passion is to lead the campaign for Calgary to become a Fair Trade Town. Fair Trade Calgary sits within Engineers Without Borders Calgary Professional Chapter, and the group has been working hard over the last couple of years to achieve the Fair Trade Town designation. Erin is also an Executive Board member of the Canadian Fair Trade Network. Erin's other hobbies are cooking with Fairtrade ingredients, dancing in Fairtrade banana costumes, and she also enjoys reading while drinking Fairtrade tea and relaxing with family and friends.
Stephanie Jackman, REAP Business Association
REAP was started by Stephanie Jackman in 2006. A marketer by trade, Stephanie had a deep desire to tell the stories of Calgary's most progressive organizations in order to create demand for better ways of doing business. "By sharing these stories with other businesses, REAP illuminates the way forward, making the journey toward sustainability easier and faster", says Stephanie. She firmly believes that when we vote with our dollars for the kind of world we want, we can alter the status quo.
