Community Natural Foods Celebrates 40 Years of Wellness

Country Market throws back to Community Natural Foods' roots

Community Natural Foods has always believed in being a good member of the Calgary community and supporting local businesses. This year they will showcase a huge line up of long time partnerships.

Community Natural Foods began its journey in 1977 at the Midnapore Farmers’ Market where founders Gary and Peter Wilkes began promoting the store at the fair making dairy-free, no added sugar ‘nice-cream.’ Their goal has always been to provide healthy and wholesome options for the Calgary community.

This year Community Natural Foods is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a free Country market to thank Calgarians for helping them have such a successful 40 years in business.  “It is just our way of offering a small thank you to the community’s long-time support,” says Beth Potter, Marketing Manager. “We have a good number of shoppers who have been with us since the beginning.”

At the market attendees will get the chance to meet local vendors and farmers, try tasty samples, watch mini-talks on how to use their favorite local and organic ingredients, play vintage kids games, listen to local live music, have your photo taken in a vintage VW bus booth and shop from local artisans and REAP member businesses.

For many vendors Community, Natural Foods is the first store to carry their products. Highwood Crossing, Mariposa Farms, Winters Turkeys and Micro YYC to name a few.  “Community Natural Foods is aptly named, demonstrating unwavering support toward the local community, Winters Turkeys, and our family,” says Daryl and Corrine Winters.

“It has been a journey of many working together for mutual benefit; we couldn’t have made it so far without each other's support,” says Beth.  “We hope to make it another 40 more years.”
