Deane House to host a “wicket” garden party fundraiser for YWCA
Rose and Croquet welcomes YWCA Hub to Inglewood
In celebration of the Summer Equinox and the unveiling of YWCA’s new Hub project in Inglewood, Deane House and Fort Calgary will be hosting its first-ever garden party fundraiser: Rosé and Croquet, in support of the YWCA.
“The YWCA and its extraordinary programs to empower women is very valuable to our community,” says Sal Howell, Proprietor of the historic restaurant on Fort Calgary’s land. “It seemed like an obvious cause to support. That, and the fact we are bringing together two historic institutions, both Deane House and YWCA are over 100 years old, bookending this historic neighbourhood and keeping it alive and vibrant.”
A “fashionable garden party,” Rosé and Croquet will feature live music, auctions, libations, and fancy dress -- complete with a hat contest, judged by local designers such as Smithbilt Hats -- another centennial business in the neighbourhood, Lauren Bagliore, and Paul Hardy Designs. The event will also kick off Deane House’s latest local partnership, The Prosecco Cart -- a vintage-inspired mobile bar peddling champagne.
“We wanted to get as much of the community involved as possible in the event,” Sal says. Head of Millinery Design at Smithbuilt, Holly Allen, will donate 15% of sales directly to the YWCA for a hat or fascinator purchased for this event.
As the name of the event suggests, croquet games will pepper the sprawling lawn at Deane House throughout the day, umpired by local improv comedy troupe The Kinkonauts. “It’ll be a really fun event,” Sal says.
“This will be the first of many annual fundraisers, and I hope it’ll give people the chance to celebrate the season, the community, and learn about the YWCA.”
