Devour Catering offers heartfelt hospitality

Local catering company deeply rooted in values

It all started with catering a childhood friend’s post-wedding brunch.

J’Val Shuster had worked for catering companies through university, and used her expertise to craft a heartfelt tribute to her friends’ heritage through food. “I grew up eating Dutch food with her family, so I made sure there were lots of Dutch cheeses and desserts. Literally everything was made from scratch.”

Since that day in 1997, J’Val Shuster has been creating heartfelt connections with her own catering company, Devour Catering, alongside a team of 40 equally passionate staff members. “I think the heartfelt intention behind every event, to make a poignant connection with guests, makes a big difference.”

Devour Catering positions itself as a “celebration company.” Some favourite jobs have been recreating wedding dinners for a couple’s 50th wedding anniversary, and the Dinner on the Set fundraiser with the Calgary Opera, serving a menu on the stage of the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium inspired by that season’s performance. “There are so many ways you can enhance a celebration,” she says.

“We feel so lucky to be part of these pivotal moments.”

Up next for Devour is the journey to become B-Corp certified. B-Corp is a rigorous certification that examines a business’ governance, environmental impact, procurement practices and community initiatives. J’Val wants to ensure her company makes a positive contribution to the world.

“It’s a virtuous circle.”
