Voting takes new form in 2017 Be Local Awards

The fifth annual Be Local Awards sees updates

August 3, 2017 by Natasha Robbie

REAP’s 2017 Be Local Awards (the fifth annual) start Tuesday, August 8th and run through October 31st. The Be Local Awards are our opportunity to showcase the amazing businesses in our directory with daily blog articles.

This program is always evolving along with us, so here are some new things to expect this year:

  • We’re featuring 10 REAP businesses per week from Monday through Friday for 13 weeks (except on statutory holidays). You will have the opportunity to vote daily for any one of the 10 businesses featured that week. Just visit our homepage at BeLocal.org and click on the business you wish to vote for.
  • We know that 13 weeks is a long time to vote for your favourite businesses. Based on your feedback, we've shortened the voting window to just one week per business. This means that you can show your support daily for one of 10 businesses on the homepage during their feature week. On Sunday at midnight another 10 businesses will appear as we cycle through all 150 of our members in 13 weeks.
  • Just like last year, we'll send out a weekly newsletter each Friday. But this year the top three stories featured will be determined by your votes! If you haven’t yet voted that week (or you want to boost one of your favourite featured businesses) you’ll still have the weekend to show your support.
  • After you vote, share your choice on social media using the hashtag #BeLocal and tagging @reapcalgary. We’re active on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram so follow us on all three platforms and share your vote on each channel for more chances to win. We’ll announce a different draw prize winner each week, so you have 13 opportunities to win cool prizes from local businesses and the opportunity to attend the exclusive awards ceremony at River Café in November.
